Cork Industry Explodes in Exports in 2016

The industry exports 90 percent of its production to 133 countries, with bottle stoppers still the ”premium product”, accounting for 72 percent of all exports, the association said.
Then come building materials with 25 percent and other products with 3 percent, though the new applications represent “an elevated growth potential”, it added.
In 2016, cork represented 7.5 percent of all Portuguese exports.
The success in 2016 is considered to be a consequence of the effort “to renovate processes and products, of investing in innovation and the policy of conscious, sustainable international communication over the last 15 years”.
